Today, in class, I reached into my bag to pull out a tampon, which I hid under my sleeve so I could make a quick escape to the restroom. My teacher yelled at me, because she thought I'd taken out my phone. I then had to prove myself by showing the tampon to the whole class. FML

73 and 77 are not Tumblr people, I'm guessing. On topic, I agree with the folks that are saying there's no need to be embarrassed. I understand that it's not something you want to just randomly announce it to the class, but if they find you, you don't need to feel embarrassed. It's no secret that girls get periods. Anyone snickering or teasing just needs to grow up a little.

Depends how old she is. If she's in like 6th or 7th grade it would be shitty cause a) not all her female classmates have gotten theirs yet and b) boys at that age are extremely immature about these things, and she'd probably get teased for it.

I thought the same thing. I got mine when I was 11 and felt really embarassed about it for the first couple years since most of my classmates got theirs at 15 or 16. My first thought after reading the FML was "why are you ashamed? It's pretty natural." as well but yes, op could easily be in 7th or 8th grade where most girls would feel ashamed in such a situation.

Even if she is in high school it would be embarrassing having to show her tampon to the entire class. Just because it is something natural, that all girls go through, doesn't mean announcing it to a whole class wouldn't embarrass you. Getting an erection is completely normal for guys, and it's something that can happen randomly. Just because it's natural doesn't mean a guy wouldn't be embarrassed to tell his whole class that he has one. Just because something is natural doesn't mean you're comfortable telling everyone about it.

Ain't no shame. It's natural for a woman. We take tarried at my school for that kinda thing so I just take mine out, embarrass the teacher (most of them are men), and I get a free pass. Ain't…no…shame!

Sometimes you have to change it more than once an hour. In this case you can't really say they should have changed it before class and they would have been fine because for all you know they did.
