Today, it's my 21st birthday and my dad has decided to take away my ID in fear that if I have even one drink to celebrate I'll become a raging alcoholic. FML

That's exactly why I'm a virgin to this day. I'm afraid of becoming addicted to sex. Yeah. That's it.

Surely it's your choice if you did drink? Take it back and tell him to get out of your business.

Doesn't OP's father realize that by making it forbidden, that just emphasizes that it's something special?

My mom is the same way. She and her mom freak out every time I have anything alcoholic. One time while dining out they made a game out of trying to take away my margarita. The worst part is, I've never once been drunk, don't want to ever get drunk, and always take special care to keep from getting drunk...like taking 3 hours to finish the aforementioned margarita.

Sure, you can't legally drink without it, but did he take into consideration the fact that you also can't legally drive without it?

I feel for you Op, I turn 21 in just under a month, and nothing will prevent me from drinking my celebratory bottle of wine.

Grow a pair. How do you let him take away your property at 21 years old?

Pretty sure it's not legal to take someone's ID without their permission, especially since you need it to drive. If he absolutely won't give it back then call the cops; it's stolen property. You're an adult now, he has no right telling you what you can and can't do.

You're 21, get the f*ck out of your parent's house.

You're 21 he has no legal right to control you like that.

How do you think I feel? I was dragged to the nearest bar by my brother on my 21st because he knew I had no interest in drinking.
