Drunk thoughts are *sometimes* true thoughts, but sometimes a random wave of sentimentality just hits you and the alcohol makes you make a bigger deal of it. Combine that with natural cold feet and the mental drama only intensifies. So don't freak out until you talk to him, could be insignificant in 'real' life.

You shouldn't marry some one young just because you're afraid of being alone in 10 years. That's ridiculous. I think the point is, they were engaged before he was 21 and clearly before he knew what he really wanted in life. Which I think is a major problem in most young marriages; how can you commit your life to some one when you don't even know if what they want is the same as what you want? Especially when you're in the process of trying to find a career.
Being engaged that young might be part of your problem.
Although I agree with not marrying someone because you're afraid of being alone, there's no denying that it definitely happens the older you get! I didn't marry for any reason besides it being the right time for both me and my husband.
