Today, it was my first day at my new job. My new boss asked me if I was single. After telling him I have been happily married for 6 years, he fired me on the spot. FML

to continue #139`s point... ****.. now that is a rude word, and it perfectly describes your personality #9!

you're full of shit because by law they can't do that.

People never break the law or anything - People like that prey on people who don't know the law and expect that they won't say anything, and/or, have other "reasons". Since most jobs have a probationary term where any wrong doing can mean being fired it's easier to get away with for new employees.

Ypu know in some states such as say Colorado employers can fire you for no reason. You can literally be fired for being ugly and there is nothing you can do about it

what a douche of a boss. sorry to hear that Op

Ehhh, I call BS, because that breaks just about every anti-discrimination law in the book. But if you're actually telling the truth, then please, sue his ass into oblivion. You'll make some nice cash and prevent him from pulling this crap with any other unfortunate woman at the same time. Two birds with one stone!

You obviously have never read "the book". Please cite exactly what law was broken. Or, STFU.

belive me its better nt to work there u wont feel comfortable with ur boss

That is absolutly grounds for a lawsuit in the US. You cannot be discrimiated against for marital status. Get a lawyer and get your money girl.

Wrong genius. "Marriage" is not covered under any Federal Discrimination Titles or Statutes. Same with being pregnant. That's one reason for the Family Medical leave Act.... so you can insure you have "a job" when you return from maternity leave. Of course, anybody can sue anybody for anything at anytime. But civil lawsuits are very costly, and can easily take 2-4 years to settle. So you might consider refraining from shooting off your mouth about something which you know nothing.

First day of the job. You can be fired without reason. It is not illegal. You can try to sue like everyone is suggesting, but good luck with that. You are in your probationary period.

Exactly correct. You do NOT have a Constitutional "Right" to a job. You do NOT have an "Entitlement" to a job. You do NOT have a "Moral Right" to a job. If you are employed, you are probably covered under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Or if you have certain disabilities, or are over the age of 40. You can file a Civil Suit in court, wait 4 years for a jury trial and still lose. Best advice, a well placed knee to his nuts would bring more instant and sustained gratification to you.
