Today, my flatmate took his hour plus long shower while we both tried to get ready for work. I had a choice to wet myself or pee in a cooking pot. I chose the pot. FML

Sounds like it's time to talk about shower time and what's an appropriate length when you only have one toilet in the house. At the very least, he should ask if you have to use the toilet before he takes the place over.

um surely there was a way around this? a neighbour? nearby toilets? forgive my ignorance I don't live in flat.. but convinced there was another way

Next time, try something with a one-time use (like a plastic cup) or something that's usually dirty (like an empty trash can...just remember to other it well!).

If their showers are that long, then they should shower the night before they have to go anywhere - work, class, social event, whatever - so that it's doesn't inconvenience you when getting ready for work and both of you can use it if getting ready at the same time. It definitely sucks for you but it's a teeny, tiny bit of a YDI because you didn't talk to them about this sooner.
