Today, my 50-something coworker followed through on his threat to file a defamation lawsuit against me. All because I jokingly said "pedo" after he bragged to everyone that his girlfriend is a smoking hot 19-year-old. FML

Today, it was a coworker's last day. Over the last 6 months, he has been talking smack about me because he assumed I'd ratted him out for a Facebook post, ranting about our place of employment. I decided to confront him after work to let him know that I didn't do it. He then reported me for harassment to all of my supervisors. FML

Are you sure it came across as joking? I know we all make mistakes and it happens to all of us - things can just come out wrong and you don't realize it. Either way, that's a bit ridiculous as a course of action for him to take.

I don't even think that's funny. and its quite a serious thing to joke about too, especially in the workplace. I'm all for awful jokes that probably shouldn't be said but a) they need some creativity, not just saying vile things for their own sake and b) there's a time and a place and at work with people you clearly haven't got the measure of yet is not it!!

#72 judges don't go off of their own opinion. all judges do is decide the punishment according to the state laws, the jury (if there is a jury, it could very well be a bench trial) decides whether they are responsible or not responsible. (like guilty or not guilty but those are the 'correct' terms for a civil case.

If there's one thing I remember from Civil Procedure... FRCP 12(b)(6) : Motion to dismiss for failure to state a claim. If there's nothing much more to this story, even the cheapest lawyer can file that motion for you and voila, case dismissed.
