Today, my boss at my new job described a client as "retarded". I corrected him with "mentally disabled". He smirked and replied "Whatever. Just explain things to her real slow. After all, she's 'mentally disabled'. And a woman." I need this job so bad that I'll have to just put up with this asshole. FML

Report it to someone OP, I'm sure that can't be tolerated.

That should not be tolerated at the workplace.

#25 - Exactly. I feel like people just want something to argue about. There's no reason to get all mad over something as small as using the word "retarded"

I'm sure he's probably like that all the time though and political correctness has nothing to do with personality

No, they don't. Intellectual disability is synonymous with mental retardation. Mental disability is much more broad.

I bet if someone inferred men were mentally inept, and you must speak slow with them, you'd be pretty sensitive too. It's all about viewpoint, if you're not mentally disabled or a woman then why bother voicing your negative opinion? You're not helping anyone, you're wasting your time.

I definitely would not be sensitive or offended. Your opinion of myself or of men in general has no effect on me. Your opinion means nothing to me. It's your opinion not mine. So my opinion is that people need to quit being so sensitive about what others say.

This may literally be the most absurdly privileged statement I have ever read in my entire life. "I have no point of reference on this issue at all, but I like that the feeling of my own impotence and pointlessness as a human being is lifted slightly whenever I demean and degrade the lives of others who have less institutional power than myself. Therefore, I will rail against anyone who tries to pull my face from the sand, lifting my ass proudly in the air as I bury myself in my own ignorance."

it's her boss, his opinions definitely have an effect. If he thinks lowly of women, that affects her. And he's talking about a client.

#73 ....Dude, you're displaying your oversensitive and offended status right here, right now, plain for all to see. Learn some self-awareness. Please.

Omfg #84 that's the best thing I've read on here lmao, I am so fed up with people thinking their opinion is golden and everyone must hear it.

I've never actually found a context in which I wanted to tell somebody to "check their priviledge" until now.

He sounds Hilarious, you should be thankful.

Please please please explain why OP should be greatfull? Because they have a douche bag sexist boss?? How on earth is it hilarious to degrade a mentally challenged person and women???? Can't wait to hear what you have to say!!

Don't rise to it 39, that guy obviously never grew up and realised it's a waste of a life to make others feel inferior. He's clearly just here to annoy people, pity them.

31 you need to take a few steps back look in the mirror and **** YOUR OWN FACE. This guy is the epitome of top of the line douchecanoe, and he wasn't joking, doing a routine or trying to be funny. He was insulting a client in front of a subordinate who was from what I understand also a woman. I'm surprised she didn't get fired for kicking him square in the balls. If I were a woman in that situation I sure as shit would have.

Well she's probably going to get a worse deal from your boss than you! The best you can do is treat her (and talk about her) respectfully and like she's an actual person, and hope your boss gets the hint.

Not gonna lie, I'm ashamed by the responses given by some of the guys on here. That's not even laddish, that's just being a right and proper asshole. 'Manners maketh the man'.

He he may have been messing with you because you corrected him and became all PC about it. If it's a laid back place it doesn't pay to be that one person there that everyone has to wAtch their language around. They'll start resenting you.

Wow and this got down voted. You know I'm right.

You sound like an asshole too, do you know their boss?

No, you got downvoted so much because everyone knows you're wrong.

if you report him he can't discriminate against you. if he does report him again. they will either move him or fire him. don't put up with something like that just because you need a job. you aren't the only one with a choice to act right. he has a choice too and if he chooses to not behave he can deal with the repercussions.

If you need that job that much then be real sneaky when dropping off resumes to other places
