Today, my boss at my new job described a client as "retarded". I corrected him with "mentally disabled". He smirked and replied "Whatever. Just explain things to her real slow. After all, she's 'mentally disabled'. And a woman." I need this job so bad that I'll have to just put up with this asshole. FML

Report it to someone OP, I'm sure that can't be tolerated.

That should not be tolerated at the workplace.

He should definitely be reported. And there is a reason retard was removed from dictionary.

but still, if OP needs* this job ........ I'd just swallow it

ATLEAST YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION AT A NEW JOB BY CORRECTING YOUR BOSS... YOU'LL GO FAR!!!

It was bad taste for sure, but hey take a joke. You were right to correct your boss, but lighten up a little and let stuff like that roll off like water on a ducks back. Continue to correct your boss's inconsiderate comments and make a better person out of him/her

As a high-functioning autistic, thanks for spreading the word to end the word. Sorry your boss is such a major dicklord.

its a shame I can only downvote this guy^^^ (the "thats what she said" one) once.

There's always someone above the boss, go to them!

Correct me if I'm wrong but, retardation is an actual mental disease. It is okay to call a mentally retarded person retarded. The sarcasm and "because she is a woman" part on the other hand, should be shamed upon.

I think the word 'retard' and variations of it have now become offensive - at least in the UK, because of how they are used. Therefore I don't think it is appropriate for anyone to use it. My friends use it as an insult all the time and I don't always speak out against it but I don't agree with it.

Intellectually disabled actually according to the current dsm.
