Ask him if you can still be friends, since he obviously has some sort of psychic connection to your mom. Seriously, what an asshole. If you want to break up with someone have the balls to tell the truth. And for the love of God, have the decency to remenber whether or not one of their parents are deceased and don't bring them into the breakup. Sounds lime you are MUCH better off without him OP. At least find a guy who can remembef something as important as a parent passing away.

Sure, but nobody uses that particular Americanism here. I just thought it was odd. If I was posting an FML and wanted to remain neutral I'd have said "mother" instead of "mum" OR "mom". But now I'm just overthinking it...
