i think that's the sweetest thing ever, and i imagine that if you got over yourself and accepted his proposal he would've bought you a ring later. lots of people propose without a ring, so that the woman can choose one herself. if he'd bought a ring already, you'd be complaining that it wasn't the kind you wanted.
