Today, my boyfriend randomly decided to let me know that he believes there's really no such thing as cheating, unless both partners explicitly agree that the relationship is monogamous. And no, he wouldn't agree that ours is. FML

at least he's being honest that he doesn't want to be in a monogamous relationship. if your not ok with being in an open relationship then time to move on.

There is no such thing as an actual relationship that is open those are just two people who have sex with multiple partners and each other. They just happen to hangout.

Your boyfriend means you chose him and thus deserve it. Pick someone better next time.

Way too many people assume that relationships are automatically monogamous. Exclusivity is something that a couple agrees to within the confines of a relationship. It is not a given, and it's not cheating if you have just never happened to make the point to bring it up. It's your own dang fault.

I disagree, an actual standard RELATIONSHIP implies exclusivity otherwise you are just dating. If you assume you arent exclusive then its not a relationship if people want an open relationship it needs to be talked about if they are being called a couple. An open relationship is an established thing a relationship implies exclusiveness, otherwise why even say if you are in a relationship?

You need to kick him to the curb, that was disrespectful.

Sounds like an excuse to me.
