On the one hand, it was disrespectful of you to call him out (though if it was obvious you only did it in casual jest, then you really got screwed over), but he really should have waited until between classes, especially since it seems he initiated the call, which heavily implies he just whipped out his phone in the middle of class. Honestly, it feels like he was baiting a response. When I was in school, teachers were not allowed to make personal calls unless it was an emergency, and then teachers would usually let us know in advance if such a call was expected during class. It's not surprising that teachers are hypocritical humans like everyone else, but you shouldn't get chewed out for his mistake unless you were being a jerk about it on purpose.

sounds like he shouldn't be such a hypocritical dick and not expect to be called out on it. He could've left the room so that's on him.
Great, yeah the nazi's totally killed thousands of people all because of their cellphones vibrating. Never compare people to nazi's unless they actually are and your professor had a right to blow up.
He's mad because he and his wife are having a hard time. You deserved it!!!
No matter what way I look at it, I can see this as no ones fault but your own. You remind me of my old classmates, always trying to start shit and pushing their lucky tying to show people up and act the big lad, then acting confused and insulted when they get thrown out of class
You broke Godwin's law. The moment you bring up nazis, or make an analogy to them, you have immediately lost whatever argument you were having, unless the topic of discussion was nazis or something directly related to them.
OP, using the term "Nazi" that way is really offensive. Seriously.
I don't know why I'm being down voted or reported What I said was true.
No thanks, I'm not a kissass. If someone's a dick or a hypocrite, you call em out. That's how you get rid of them.
It was just a joke, clam down. How could OP know that his teachers wife was having a tumor removed. It's not that big of a deal to jokingly call out a teacher.
I will compare what I want to what I want. It's a fine and fair comparison people use when they describe something way too overly strict, and for good reason.
I m sorry but that's so wrong on so many levels. U need to learn from your mistake and ofc say sorry... (sorry for my writing i m from Belgium)
I don't understand how OP's use of nazi is offensive when it's apparently totally okay to say grammar nazi nonchalantly.
I mean, he should have given a warning that his wife was ill. But you also should have not said anything because most people have a good reason for breaking their own rules.
The top comments are such cheese. If he hadn't wanted anybody to ask him why he's on his phone (which was inevitable) then he should have told the class. Quit acting like an all-knowing being
He doesn't have to tell anyone about his personal life. They can mind their own damn business. It's called respect.
That's such a dick move op. Thinking logically he most likely had a very valid reason to use it. Even if he didn't you're just asking for the teacher to dislike you.
Lol everyone being all serious about this, like he didn't say he yelled and threatened the teacher, he just "called him out" I called my teacher out for eating pizza during class today, not that big of a deal, sure it sucks the guy's wife is in that condition but calling out a teacher usually doesn't mean being a complete asshole unless you are one of those kids who are just assholes for no reason to everyone
All depends on the context, so yes, OP was kind of being an asshole here. He did it to try and start an argument, not to politely correct his teacher.
You're not in class to be on your phone **** the teachers life for having to deal with kifs like you
Grow up, OP. What do you think, that you are an equal to this guy? Most teachers are professionals and they are allowed to use their own judgment as to what is appropriate. Your judgment of the teacher and calling him a "cell-phone hater" just demonstrates your lack of maturity and ability to reason.
I moderated this positively just so I could click ydi.

I assume since the teacher made that rule he'd make sure it's a damn good reason he's using it.
If he really hates phones you should've realized it was something serious.
