Today, my dad decided to clean out my car and "accidentally" threw away my $520 tax refund check. FML

If he kept it I doubt he'd be able to cash it if it has your name on it. If he really did "accidentally" throw it away I'd be "accidentally" making his ass dig through the trash and find it.

Jeez people. OP said that the dad decided to clean out the car. Nowhere was it stated that the OP asked the dad to clean the car out. Regardless, just call the IRS, stay on hold for four hours, and then tell them what happened and they'll set you up with a new check. Unless you were driving around with an endorsed check (which is the stupidest thing you could do) then the money still belongs to the IRS. The check is just a coupon for transfer of ownership.

Fyl for only getting $500 back in taxes.

Accidentally in quotes? I'm no English major, but I know what quotes are for. Do you mean he did it on purpose and you meant it facetiously, or are you quoting another FML post?

Yes make ur dad pay $620 If he corrects the amount, he did take it If he didn't he may pay out of regret

The first idea is good, but if he offers to pay and the poster actually makes him pay that would suck. It's not like it's hard to get the IRS to cancel and reissue a check.

Are you implying that's it's not an accident? Why is your dad cleaning your car?

1) Why is your dad cleaning your car? 2) What possible motive would he have? 3) Why the hell haven't you cashed the thing yet? Call the IRS and tell them to send you a new check

Granted I ****** up, my parents helped me pay off my credit card. They said that they (well my mom did, my father who is the income said that was news to him) were going to take my tax return. I said that's fine because I had an insurance claim for 1000 that went to the credit card. They have still yet to cash my return. There are legit reasons to noy have a check cashed, OP may have been in a similar situation as me, said **** it, you're taking too long, and went to cash it him/her self.

YDDI. (you deff deserved it.) If it was that important - why would it be in your car? I'd rather have my father throw it out KNOWING what happened to it - rather than someone breaking into my car to get it. Also, why would you not have cashed it or deposited it yet? I took mine to the bank and deposited it right away to avoid anything like this that might have happened. Time to grow up, and take some responsibility for your personal belongings.

Keep that shit in your wallet/purse.

You can call and get them to reissue a cheque this is hardly a FML
