My dad paid for my first tattoo as an under-age birthday present. But then again, I was buying my own car/paying insurance, and paying my part of the phone bill... and I had that money because I worked for my dad. So it all worked out. OP, listen to daddy next time. YDI.
If the car is in the OP's name then technically her dad stole it regardless of whether he bought it for her b/c even if he paid for the car it was a gift to her and therfore her property. However, if the car is also in his name then he has every right to take the car away. Personally, I would have just told the OP she can either have the tattoo removed or the tattoo will have to find somewhere else to live b/c it's not staying at my house. Course my above comment is assuming the OP is legally an adult. If not then the OP had no right getting a tattoo and most likely got it illegally since you have to be 18 to legally get a tattoo in America.
YDI for telling private things to your father
Perhaps your "SARCASM" sounds witty and clever to you, #67, but it's coming off as an ill-placed attept at condescending scolding, as well as a display of your own ignorance. 1. Do you know for a fact that the OP's father purchased the car? No. 2. "Tramp stamp"? Oh, now I'm SURE this isn't biased. (See? I can use sarcasm, too.) 3. Do you know whether the OP is yet eighteen? No. If she is, she had every right to get the tattoo, therfore leaving her father with virtually no authority over her actions. Pick up a book. 4. Mmm, "****"? VERY nice. Because I'm certain that you know the OP personally, as there's no way someone of your maturity and and over-all worldly intelligence would NEVER make immediate judgements on someone you don't know one bit. 5. Really? "Blabbermouth"? Now, you REALLY think the OP would get a tattoo, purposefully NOT telling her father, then deliberatly inform him of it? Please, read through your posts more throroughly from now on, and try not to let your personal beliefs interfere with your, ahem, professional opinion. Really, my brain's polluted enough after wadding through all of your crap.
OP in no way shape or form said that her dad bought it for her. She might have even bought it with her own money, as she would have probably been able to since she says she was coming back from work. My guess is OP worked her butt off for the car, and it's her own body, so she should decide what she does with it. Tattoos aren't reserved for *****.
I love all these people telling the OP to call the cops!! I can picture it now, Police officer arrives at generic suburban house and door is answer by a wannabe rebellious crying 18 year old. OP: officer my daddy stole my car cause I got a tattoo that I will most likely really hate and regret in a few years Officer: Calm down miss, and tell me where you father is. OP: He's in the house watching football. Officer: Uhuh, and wheres the car? OP: umm in the garage Officer: do you own the car miss OP: No, but its mine, my daddy gave it to me and now he took my keys away, boohoo, will you get my keys back. Officer: No, I'm going to leave now, oh and you can give you father this $300 ticket for wasting my time. Girl cries more and gives father ticket... OP's dad: FML!!
While I am guessing that the father bought the car and the girl is acting really immature and stupid... on the off chance the daughter DID purchase the car... the father is going to look really stupid in that situation. COPS: Hello you'd like to file a report? DAUGHTER: Yes, my father stole my car for getting a tatoo. Here's my title and registration. COPS: Sir, where's the car? DAD: But.......... she got a tatoo! COPS: *FML*
COP: *mc hammer shuffles to the front door* Yo, this is the Po Po knockin' at yo do' do', what may I ask is the problem mam? GIRL: I'm so glad your here officer, my dad came down hard on me, he's just way too forceful ya know? telling me he didnt like my tramp stamp and shit when he was back there. He felt the need to shove it in my face and released his load of fury upon me and now I dont have anything to ride! COP: Giggity.
I just can't stop laughing.
@67 - hit the nail on the head. @ 68 & 69 OP will say they paid for it if they did... theres been a number of "dad took my car" FMLs, often poster will say THEY bought the car, but wont admit it if they didnt. Submit a few FMLs, you'll notice you go out of your way to include these details & avoid self-incrimination. If you are 18, and live at home with mom and dad then NO you dont have the right to circumvent them. Its not like you can say "mom, dad im getting hitched and HES moving in" Their house, their authority.

When you willfully break the rules, don't come crying to FML when you see the consequences.
report the car as stolen. it's your body. unless it's not actually owned by you. then suck up & buy your own
