Today, my friends and I went to court. We are all college students, and for next semester, we will be on probation and have to do 8 hours of community service, as well as a $25 fine each. All for swinging on swings in the park after dark. FML
I agree, your life sucks 40 316
You deserved it 4 886

inner5yearold tells us more.

all the people saying that we were doing drugs or other illegal activities, we werent. we were just college students who had a lot of stress, and wanted to relax by acting like five year olds in the park, swinging on swings, playing on the see-saw, going down slides, monkey bars etcetera. we did not know the park closed after dark, there were no signs by the entrances, and there were no gates. anyone can walk in there at any time of day, and they would not know. the weathered sign, we found it the next day, and it was at the back of the park, no where near any lights or anything. we were just chilling there because we didnt want to go back to our rooms because of annoying roommates. there was even an overhead light shining into the park, giving the impression that it was open after dark. the police didnt even ask if we were doing anything illegal, or asked to see what was in our pockets or anything. two of us didnt even have any ID because we didnt want to lose it on the swings. new ro police are entirely retarded. period.

Next time read the signs and follow the rules. Too many people have the idea that they are above the law.

The problem is that too many people assume that laws follow common sense or rationality. Shame on them. We should all memorize each and every bylaw every month so as to insure we don't break any laws.

I believe you meant "ensure."

OP Never said anything about any signs - and signs don't necessarily have to be posted. Do you ever get tired of assuming things to validate your own beliefs?

I think you left out the part where you and your friends were laughing and yelling like retards. Also, the guy that mentioned mouthing off to the cops is probably right on that front also.

hi. i just wanna clear a few things up. i am a friend of inner5yearold. and i was there that night. there were no drugs, alcohol, or anything "shady" going on. the four of us were just swinging on swings trying to do backflips. we had been studying and decided to go blow off some steam and have some fun. THREE cops showed up to write four kids tickets. and when they noticed we were sober, and completely well behaved the looks on their faces was obvious disappointment. oh, and there were no signs posted at either entrance of the park. the only sign is seriously weathered and posted at the back. so basically when the piggies get bored, kids get screwed over.

Oh, didn't you know, I_Heart_Him? It's ALWAYS the cops' fault! Or should I say the "piggies"? You know, because they are doing the job that they were hired to do (and swore an OATH to do!) and uphold the laws of their respective jurisdictions. Laws, mind you, that contrary to popular belief, they did NOT write themselves! Those bastards, how DARE they try to make a living! I'm sure I_Heart_Him will understand the nature of my comment, but for anyone who is confused: I'm being completely sarcastic. Apparently a lot of people my age seem to think they're above the law, and when they get caught doing what they're not supposed to be doing (much like OP and her friends were), OMG CAWPZ ARE SUCH PIGZ THEY SHOULD ALL DIE AND WE SHOULD BE AN ANARCHIST STATE **** YAHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Oh, but when a cop actually prevents someone from being robbed, raped, or killed...whatever, they're just doing their job, nothing special, right? I have a lot of respect for people who take a job where they have to defend people who do nothing but talk shit about them, sometimes risking or even giving their own lives in the process.

Yeah, but you're doing it because you choose to do it. You're being rewarded with your scholarships, but he is forced to because he swinging on some swings at night...

8 hours is easily knocked off. I had to do 75 for my scholarships. And I go to parks all the time when they are closed. Almost got caught shooting airsoft guns with my friends. Other than that, it was all fine

I'm all for obeying the laws, but this is rediculous. On the plus side, you have a story about how you got busted for "swinging". :)
