Today, my grandmother called me in a fit of panic because her new neighbors are black. So is my fiancé, whom she is supposed to meet tomorrow. FML

That sucks. It's similar to the feeling "oh shit my boyfriends parents are hardcore Catholic and I'm Wiccan." But in the end if you love him then I wish you two a good life if your grandma approves or not.

Sad that racism is still so prevalent in the US today

Same situation happened in my family. And you know what? Grandma got over it. She also got over my cousins Hispanic wife, and my Aunts wife. Love is nothing to be pissed about. Once people accept that, this world will be a happier place.

just look at her dead in the eye and say "its true what they say, you never go back"

Try using a baking powder on bf or steal her glasses before meeting three of you.

Please tell me you at least warned your fiancé? Very uncomfortable situation to put him in.

Oh, racist grandmas. Aren't they fun? But seriously, ... In my experience, it's rare to find an elderly person that isn't racist. Hopefully, she'll be nice to your fiancé. Good luck, OP.

It doesn't even matter the skin color of the old person, they're pretty much all ethno centric at best, openly bigoted at worst.

grand ma is from a different time cut her some slack. she'll get to know your fiance. she may not like it at first. But if he's a good guy I'm sure she'll see it and accept him.

Your grandmother is just old school. Maybe after meeting your fiancé, she will think differently. After all, it's about who she is, not what her skin colour is.

WOW is this your first trip to reality land?

My grandma is the same way one time in middle school i invited a friend over who was black she was nice to him to his face but she was freaking out about it to my mom to not let us go outside incase the neighbors saw us. In her defense she's from a time where that thought process was the norm and has a hard time changing her ways and shes just batshit crazy too. Good luck OP

Good luck with the meet and greet process OP. I sure hope your gran accepts your hubby to be and that all goes well.
