You probably could make her pay for it. Sure you weren't supposed to be using it in class, but that deserved confiscating, not BREAKING. (Also don't they have cases and stuff that you can get so that kind of shit doesn't happen? Otter box or something?)

RaggleFrock is correct; should not have had it in class, if you didn't then this wouldn't have happened. You would most likely lose the case if trying to sue her in court. I would still ask though that she pay for the repairs, as I am sure she feels bad for that part of it.
