Today, my husband and I went for our 20 week scan and found out we're having a girl. The first thing he said to me was, "The next one better be a boy or I'm leaving you". FML

You obviously have to leave him now. It's the FML rule.

Sometimes I feel like I learn more here on FML than in class.

Save yourself the time and trouble. Divorce him, now.

Congrats about your baby girl! I hope your husband was just making a bad joke, if not I hope he comes around. My dad was hoping for a boy too when my mom was pregnant with me, but once I was born he couldn't remember why.

Perhaps it was in a joking manner?

You guys are British. Shouldn't King Henry the eighth have taught him something?

I'm a bit too lazy to read through all the comments to see if it's already been mentioned... Anyway, I'm currently 28 weeks along and it reminded me of something I read on my birth club. The girl was seriously confused on how she conceived a boy when her husbands family has all girls... Even when quite a few people told her that it's always a 50/50 chance she got super upset and more confused because others were making a joke about a previous poster's "blue orb theory." Super hilarious lol :) if anyone wants the link I'm sure I can find it again.

"her husbands family has all girls" Apart from her husband..!

Well, it does rather make sense. The gender's determined by the chromosome the sperm has, and if the family's males aren't apt at making lively sperm, the Ys do tend to die fast--but it could just be that the woman was highly fertile and made up for the lack from his side of the family. It'd be odd if we were talking about twins, which probably depends on how many eggs a woman releases at once and how well her body can maintain them both, though the sperm being able to fertilize them both would also factor in.

Lol she did say that though, that her husbands family has all girls, obviously not taking her husband into consideration. Even after people pointed out that his family can definitely produce boys, she still refused to believe that he could give her a boy. That's like me saying my family can't produce girls (since the majority of my blood related family is boys) but yet I was magically produced somehow. Lol. :)

His sense of humor shining through at the wrong time. Sometimes men forget that women are more sensitive at this time, and can sometimes be insecure and need reassurance. I'm sure that he thought he was adding levity to the situation.

Tell him if he wants a boy, he needs to make your life perfectly unstressful. Stressed and unhappy women are are more likely to have girls. Yes it's actually real science, discovered after 9/11, emotionally traumatized pregnant women in the US spontaneously miscarried a majority of male only fetuses. The effect continued for several months leading to a girl population boom in 2002.

Should have responded "Who says you'll be around when I have the next one?"
