Kratos is an awesome name. He may have gotten the idea from God of war but it is in no way a fictional name.
I can see both sides of this. The bottom line is that kids are creative. Your son will be made fun of in school for his name no matter how innocuous you think it is. Even if you pick something safe and utterly normal like 'Nathan,' just about the time he hits seventh grade, a guy named Nathan will make international fame for showing his junk on the Internet and your son will suffer for it. Would I personally name my son from a video game? Probably not. (And I do play video games.) But I might name him from Hebrew tarot cards or after an artist whose work I like, and that's really no different. More and more parents are shunning traditional names in favor of names with meaning or cultural significance. To the person who made the point about his first job interview, I'd imagine that interviewer will have seen plenty of Aaliyahs, Rivers, Qabbals, and Aphrodites. I doubt it will be as 'odd' in twenty years as it is now. Let your husband name your son Kratos. And give him a normal middle name so that, if he really does grow up hating it, he has another name he can use.
Totally agree with #8. I mean, what would've been your favorite? Michael? Tom? Would that be original?
yeah i'm pretty sure your husband is awesome. hell if it doesn't work out, pass me his number will ya?
i am now inspired to name my kid zeus. awkward names ftw
Kratos is an awesome name.
Expectant child? So the child is expecting something? Or is pregnant? You are expectant. Not your unborn child. Furthermore, cartoon character != video game character, lady. Plus it's Greek and perfectly reasonable... AND AWESOME
It's not a cartoon character, it's a videogame character. And also some kind of god from greek mythology probably (god of war was Ares I think). if you can't make that distinction, I don't see how your marriage can work at all.

i dont get the "i name one kid, you name the other" mentality. why dont you just work together to find a name you both like?
"Make-believe cartoon character"?! Whoa whoa whoa, you've gone too far, there. Besides, it's a totally cool name, you must admit.
