Today, my manager bailed on me during the afternoon rush; swamped and distracted, I cut off the pad of my thumb in a cheese slicer. Some clinic hours later I returned, hungry and sick with blood loss, to sign WC papers. Manager's only words: "You're staying late to cover your long break, right?" FML

I HATE bosses that pull that shit on you! They can bail on you or take as many breaks as you want, but you have to make up for every second you miss for whatever reason, even if it means you were in the hospital during that time.

reminds me of my old boss. my old boss was my mother.

good thing you quit! I hate bosses like that! Mine gave me a hard time about taking a day off to go see a doctor after I had a migrain for over 5 days! I quit 3 days later.

I'm sorry, what a stupid way to have to leave a job you liked! What is wrong with employers these days??? I've worked in kitchens for a long time and cut myself pretty badly, too - I hope you feel better soon!

#50-accidents happen. You can be paying all the attention in the world and still accidently slip. I use knives on a regular basis and just the other day managed to slip and slice my finger. Guess what? I was paying attention to what I was doing. OP-good luck! Keep it clean and dry, follow the instructions they gave you at the clinic for aftercare. I haven't managed to cut off the pad of a finger, but I have gotten myself some bad slices and cool scars, be prepared for a few days with a very tender finger. did you get to wear a finger condom?

I wonder what the workplace safety regulations are where you work: I once sliced the base of my thumb open working at a box store (4 stitches), and they tried to pull something like that. Luckily, I knew that (where I live) if you get injured at work, they still have to pay you for your entire shift, including time spent at the clinic/hospital. It was actually on the forms they had me sign BEFORE they took me to the clinic. Once I came out of shock, I pointed that out.

I hope you said, "No. I'm suing you."

you can probably sue them, or at least cash in on some nice worker's ensurance (depending on how the law works where you live)

Wow, I hope you told him to go **** himself and quit right then and there! No minimum wage fast food crap job is worth that!
