Today, my mom told me that she was selling my favorite thing in the world, my trombone. The only thing that I'm good at is the trombone. FML

You people are so ignorant. Just because you're good at a musical instrument doesn't mean you have a failed social life. Many of the musicians at my school are actually quite popular. People these days....

Hey Petey, maybe you are not as good as you think you are and mom is doing what she can to save what is left of her ravaged sanity. Mother's Little helper only does so much you know.

I'm that person, and I made it to honor band. And besides, she wouldn't have gotten me an expensive trombone for my birthday if I sucked.

Don't give up, OP! I know this particular instrument probably has sentimental value to you, but if there's nothing you can do to prevent its being sold, you can always find a way to get access to another one. Your music isn't going to desert you as long as you hold on to your love of it. There have even been cases of musicians separated from their instruments for years, practicing in their minds, who emerged able to play every bit as beautifully as before. I'm a violinist, and I've done something similar when my violin had to be pawned to pay the bills (at least half a dozen times over the last few years). This isn't forever.

I'm a teenager and I can't drive yet. It would be really hard for me to do that. Also, my trombone is my ticket to college.

Then you kinda deserve it. If she has that kind of power over your stuff (meaning you don't have the guts to say "no" when she is taking away the most precious thing you own) you're gonna have to learn how to keep your head down, or how to revolt. Right now, YDI, sorry.

Hide it then? She should be ashamed for taking it since you still use it, enjoy it and it was a birthday gift!?! Why would she want to sell it? Are the payments becoming too much? Maybe you can do more to help contribute to the family finances if times are hard?

We got in an argument over a game that I like to play. It is her punishment because she has taken away my iPhone, my iPod, and everything else that I treasure.

sound like she has issues! maybe suggest some family counseling?

@42: You're a ******* whiny-ass bitch, OP included, if you think you "have nothing" when you lose material shit possessions such as those. You have no idea what it means to actually lose something; for all of our sakes I hope you ******* die so I may have the pleasure of kicking your grave. **** you, OP, YDI big time for being such a little ungrateful bitch.

64: 42/OP never said they "had nothing". They just said that their mom took away most things that they own and like (well they said "treasure" but "like" works too, right?)...

64, calm down. What she meant, I think, is that when you play an instrument it really is a part of your personnality, music is an universal language. So taking all that stuff away really is cruel. Noone said she was dying or anything.

hey I'm in band! I play the trumpet.

This week at band camp.... Anyways thats really rude of your mom. Are you practicing on it like you probably told them you would if they got it for you? If not thats prob why they are selling it. You said your good however so hopefully you arent just imagining your own talent, and thats why they are selling it.

You need to go to confession for thinking that way. I don't know how people can think like that and live with themselves.
