There is absolutely no excuse for telling your kids that. My mom told my sister, "Sometime I wish I hadn't married your father." You realize you're telling that to someone whose existence is based on that union, right?

I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that "no excuse" statement. I can think of three off the top of my head and five more popped to mind as I read this. 1. What if mum really did fail? What if she's a drug addict, abusive, dates paedophiles, etc.? Not relevant here maybe but certainly an exception to the no excuse thing. 2. What if OP fails hard? Maybe right before mum said it she caught OP stealing the family's rent money - again - to buy meth and mum feels she guilty. 3. Less dark but what if OP is 40, jobless by choice, and an everything dropout who lives with mummy? P.S. I told my kid that I sometimes regret moving to this country but at least something good came of it. Your mum is human and will sometimes wonder about her what ifs. Stop taking it personally; she said sometimes, right?
