Today, my parents decided they won't pay for college because of a Fox News story that said higher education "makes you liberal." FML

Going to college doesn't make you liberal, it makes you smarter and more prepared in the world. Your parents are really ignorant

Fox are idiots, they just implied that Liberal people are highly educated. They're right for once; their right wing nazi-fest is for retards.

why all the fox news hate? ABC, CNN and especially NBC and MSNBC are much worse. isn't the media supposed to criticize the government? you definitely don't get that from the other stations. fox just exposes all the corruption the other networks don't care about because it doesn't fit their agenda. is fox conservative? yeah it's obvious but they still are able to le the people know what the government is up to

Strange how nothing was wrong when Bush was in office, the suddenly its all went to hell... Quit drinking the kool-aid.

wow can we stop playing the blame game, what so when Clinton was in office and everything was fine, then Bush popped in and whoops theres a problem, I think not, we go on down the line to the point where George Washington is to blame. And a quick question, wtf did Bush actually do wrong. Do any of you people actually have a reason for Bush hating? all in all, damn the sex-addicted, drug-loving, liberal, atheist, retard-filled internet

Ha if you actually watched Fox News you would know they did and still do bash W. for being bad... or maybe that's just Beck who does it ??

For starting an illegal war fueled by tax payer dollars and weakening business controls which allowed companies like Enron to corrupt their accounting books before they toppled over. That might just be a start.

If you were going for a candy assed liberal arts degree, then your parents and FOX are right. Nothing like a human relations class to warp a young mind.

if bush didn't start that war there would be ****** terrorists running around bombing everything so you realy should shut the **** up if they are killing thousands if people I would start a war too bush made the right decision I agree with 165 completely Mitt Romney would have been the best he just needed to run a better campaign

FYL. Many higher education institutions, especially Ivy League schools, have a bunch of ostensibly educated professors who take advantage of a captive audience to waste time spouting out their political views. I wouldn't pay 50,000 dollars a year to send my kid to school with a bunch of like-minded liberal snobs and be fed one side of an issue for four years, and I wouldn't pay 8000 dollars a year to send my kid to a smaller southern college with a bunch of like minded conservative rednecks either. But I would pay 12,000 dollars a year to help my kid go somewhere where he'll get a good education. 1) Your parents are retarded, OP. Tell them you'll remember this forever. 2) You liberals commenting on this thread are brainless gits. I live in the south and I know liberals in high school who argue better than you do.

So are your parents saying that conservatives aren't well educated

Have you read The Consitituion? Congress decides to go into war. Bush had no control over it. Still, wouldn't you rather have our troops fighting in the Middle East than have the war here? Bush's administration prevented that.

I love the comments saying that the OP should suck it up and pay their own way through school. Granted, the OP lives in the US and it might be easier there to scrape together enough money pay for college on a part time minimum wage job (which is the job most highschoolers have anyway, assuming they even have a job), but as some posters have pointed out earlier, even with the help of scholarships/loans and a job, it's still not possible to get enough money for some of the more expensive schools (i.e. Ivy League). In Malaysia (which is where I'm from), the average part time job available to a highschooler pays anything from 3-8 bucks an hour. Courses preparing you for university (A-levels or equivalent) in private colleges already cost around 10k on average. Let's not even talk about how much doing an entire degree in university is going to cost. Government sponsored courses (which are either free or very cheap) usually aren't recognised outside the country which is why most people opt for those in private colleges. Most Malaysians prefer to do their degree overseas because of the generally higher standard of education. Also, the racial quota which controls the allocation of places for certain courses makes it hard for students of certain ethnic groups to do the course of their choice. Which is why most Malaysians would want to do their degree overseas if they can afford it, hence needing a pre-university course which is widely recognised internationally. Therefore, for the average Malaysian teenager, paying for their own education isn't exactly the best option. Paying your own way through college may be a nice idea, but in some cases it just isn't really a realistic option. Consider that first before shoving it down people's throats.

Well maybe some of us have to pay for it. I'm paying my entire engineering education myself through scholarship and loans. My parents are rich, but not paying a cent. It'll make me appreciate it more, even though it is hard. And Singapore is better than Malaysia =)

lmao you're a girl and an engineering major? have fun spending your entire life being marginalized, oppressed, and depreciated by your field which is comprised primarily of bitter, lonely misogynists.

really? cause every engineer/computer scientist i have met, outside of a rare few (and however few females), have been incredibly sad manchildren that despise women because no one is willing to entertain the idea of dating their sorry, pale and flabby ass.

Oh? Singaporean scholarships? Because quite a number of Malaysian scholarships are reserved for those in the lower income brackets OR those with connections higher up. Which kind of shuts out the average middle class teen XD .

Not saying that outstanding grades and extracurricular activities aren't important in securing a scholarship because they are, but a lot of the time, just having those won't be enough. Racial quotas and nepotism FTL =_= . Also, the keyword in my entire post earlier was average, meaning no outstanding talents to speak of, average income, no particularly powerful/important contacts etc.

if bush didn't start that war there would be ****** terrorists running around bombing everything so you realy should shut the **** up if they are killing thousands if people I would start a war too bush made the right decision I agree completely with 165 completely Romney needed to run a better campaign
