Want something truly horrific? Try an NG tube. I feel terrible for my patients who have to get these.
Didn't see your comment earlier but I just posted asking to add a NG tube to the mix. They are the worst! I'm 32 and cry when I get told I have to have one haha. Actual baby "I don't want to" tears.
Ain't gonna lie, seen one of those catheter commercials today and thought bout getting one aswell..
It might.... Or at least it might help you to understand your patients better.
I don't know why this surprises you, OP. Experiencing uncomfortable yet common procedures SHOULD be mandatory in the medical field (I know at least most radiology programs have their students take turns modeling for each exam, as well as practicing them on loved ones to learn how to properly treat their patients). Doctors who lack both empathy and sympathy are the worst.
I would NEVET get a catheter unless I was put too sleep, anything poking a cm inside your urethral is painful, but I cannot imagine a plastic TUBE getting shoved down there.
That's actually incredibly stupid. General anesthesia might leave you blissfully unaware of the consequences while you're under, but puts you at a much greater risk than a simple catheter ever will - since generally, the risk of never waking up after getting a catheter is about a zero. If you ever get into a position where you require a catheter, no doctor in the word will agree to knocking you out for the procedure.
They would put you under. I had to have a surgery and she asked me if I want to be conscious or not, when they put it in. But yeah, if there is no massive surgery needed, then I agree, they wouldn't knock you out just because of that.
.... my sis is becoming a pediatric orthopedic surgeon..... does she have to get bone surgery?
It would be a good idea for her to spend a week on crutches and another in a wheelchair to better understand the frustration and limitations they bring. Also having a cast on for a week and having to deal with keeping it clean and dry while trying to get on with life might help her.
Now that is what I call a great professor
Why is this posted under "intimacy"?

Having experienced both and seeing how completely unsympathetic my doctors were to pain and discomfort I agree with him.
Your professor is not exactly wrong.
