Today, my roommate thought it would be a good idea to show me his huge new tarantula despite knowing that I have extremely severe arachnophobia. I ended up killing it with a book and apparently now owe him $500. FML

I agree with #281. its not that hard to understand guys.

The OP's roommate is an idiot for showing someone's who's that phobic a live spider in such a way that she freaked out and smashed it. If it was just in the cage, then I'd say you probably owe the roommie money, but he probably shouldn't have the spider in the first place if you're that phobic. As for all the people asking about the money, it depends on the species of the tarantula. There is a bright blue arboreal tarantula that gets fairly large that goes for $200 as a baby. It's a really gorgeous animal, it's native to india (which means it can't be imported, which is one of the reasons why the price is so high). They also don't produce a lot of babies. Adult animals are worth a lot more that babies.

I love the p matalica I want one I got 21 t's I'm entering a drawing for one local shop wants 225 4 2inch

$500, I hope u dont give it to him. What dumbass would spend $500 on a spider?

If it was extremely severe you wouldn't have killed it with a book cuz you wouldn't have been able to go near it. But nice try.

I can understand the fear. But smashing someone else's pet is...... Why couldn't OP just have run away?

way to kill!!! I would have done the same!

It's your roommates fault cause he k ows you are scared of em and therefore owe him nothing

Tarantulas don't just crawl around and randomly show up like other species if spiders. Something that exotic should have rang a bell that this was a pet. Not just an ordinary house spider. I have no sympathy for you. Your roommate obviously meant it to be a harmless joke seeing as how he put $500 on the line. You overreacted.
