My son got the same things for his birthday. He was quite happy. It sucks when they don't appreciate things. I would not have hesitated taking it back.
You gave your son these same presents? Very strange...
Kids these days are more desperate for electronic stuffs, but still his response is cruel.
Sometimes it disgust me seeing these parents buy their eight year olds iPhone and iPads. My parents bought me a phone when I was in gr.12 and had a part time job to pay for phone bills. That made me appreciate money more better.
69- Yeah, sometimes it disgusts me too, unless the kid really needs it. (Autistic, ETC....)
No it doesn't 116
You should laugh and say "Oh you poor thing, you thought these were for you. Oh no! I just wanted your opinion, so I can give it to the Salvation Army later today. I'll give you your real gift after you wash the dishes, vacuum the house, and clean the windows and your room." After that give him those little McDonald toy play thingies. Or take him on a trip To a homeless shelter. Make him see how blessed he is to even RECEIVE a gift on his birthday. I'm pretty sure after that, he would be grateful for what he has.
Wash the dishes, vacuum the house, are you sure? He's just 8 years old.
22, "just?" Is there something else that should be done at that age?
Only 8? An 8 year old should have no problems doing any of the tasks mentioned above. I was put to mowing the lawn at his age. Took a good 6-7h of my time every week.
^ The things i've seen done by a 8 year old is play with friends, grab some stuffs from nearby shop or neighbor, help while elders are gardening or cleaning the house; i didn't know those were common. Now I get an idea of what all I could make my kid do.
^ I never did house work at 8. Lol I'm not a spoiled little brat. Nobody asked me or wanted me to do house work.
Even if he's never done a chore in his life, he's gonna learn today.
My four year old niece made a mess so my older brother made her sweep it up. She whined saying she was too small, if you can make a mess, walk, and talk than you can clean up a mess. I started chores the second I could see over the sink. I was a tall child so around age 6 or 7, anyone who lets their kids get away with not doing chores at age 6-12 is just asking for a lazy little ******** of a child. I had to clean my own room when I was 5. Not making beds but picking up toys and learning to make beds and sweep and such.
If I would have said that, my parents would have taken my new gifts to Goodwill and donated them right in front of me. Probably a few other things of mine as well. But I didn't have much growing up. I still appreciate what little I have now. I don't know what's happening to make children less and less grateful for the things they get.
The parents are raising them in a way that they expect everything they want to be handed to them... It's simple, it's the parents not knowing how to raise their kids.
Kids these days...
Omg, at 8 years old? I'm sorry your son was so selfish. When I was young, my birthday gift was choosing my favorite meal and drinks that day. The sad part is, who is your son going to play with? All the kids are too busy playing with electronics indoors instead.
You made an interesting point. Nerf guns aren't very much fun unless you have someone else to play with.
Maybe it's an idea to let him make a wishlist? As long as he puts not only expensive gifts on that list, you can still choose what to get him - and you're certain he'll like it.
I think the issue is that the kid was being ungrateful. I can halfway understand if the kid never expressed interest in a nerf gun; still an inappropriate response on his behalf. I remember being 14, and my mom asked me one day what I thought of a pair of shoes (they were one of those "fad" shoes, that they advertise to teens). I told her honestly that they were uglier than satan's asshole after eating taco bell. A week later, she went out an bought me a pair. $60 wasted. I didn't like them, but I acted damned grateful and even wore them for a few days.
I agree, I find it friggin' scary that someone that young isn't happy with those presents. But still, there's no chance OP will stop buying presents, so a wishlist could be a help for her.
Totally not the point tho, this kid gets multiple presents, i don't care what they are, you say thank you and appreciate what you receive as a gift, i don't care if it's instant coffee and stirrup pants.
Ungrateful prat. You have raised a real good son there lady. :/
Kids are just ungrateful and spoiled these days. Sorry OP
What the ***** a neopet? All I had was sticks and rocks to play with.
