Today, several Ukrainians didn't believe me when I said I was American. Apparently I'm not fat enough. FML

I wasn't aware that you had to be fat to be an American. Good to know.

It's sad that we have that reputation.

A more misconception is to call all white people 'American' regardless of where their actually from, especially here in India.

It's always good to know what the world thinks of us. Sigh.

Why FML? Isn't that a compliment? Lol!

People ask if I've been shot because I'm black and from Detroit And that's even in my own state

To all saying America isn't on top of the list anymore: it all depends on the criteria you choose. When you google "fattest countries 2015", you get over ten different lists. How does one compile those lists? Percentage of overweight people? Do you differenciate between overweight and obese? Do you calculate the average BMI of all population? Do you only count adult population or take childhood obesity into account? Etc. Each method then renders different results. On one list I found (no mention of which criteria were used, of course) America was indeed on top of the list. One could of course take the results of all those lists and do a meta study. But I'm not interested enough to actually do that.

I live in Spain and get this too. But I'm a 6 foot tall female so that helps to shut them up. :-) I also hear about the whole "ugly American" stereotype, but I seriously see just as bad behavior here. It's hard to beat stereotypes.

Should've started talking about how more guns will make everyone safer somehow, then I'm sure they'd believe you.

I had the same experience on several trip around Europe. Prague was the worst for that particular stereotype in my experience.
