Today, six years after hurricane Katrina took everything from me, I received a letter in the mail from FEMA telling me that I have to repay them the money I received to replace what was lost. I have 30 days to repay $4,900 or the case will be sent into federal debt collection. FML

Today, I was finally discharged from hospital after being in there for one month, I arrive home to find a letter from a debt collection agency for my unpaid car insurance premium, and another letter from my car insurer to say that they aren't covering my accident due to non payment of premium. FML

Today, I got a call from the county’s courthouse where I used to live saying I was being sued for fraud and expected in court to defend myself. Apparently, my ex took a loan out in my name and now I get to pay $2300 worth of legal fees and restitution to this loan company. FML

Today, I received a surprise "absolute final notice" email for payment of an overdue fee from the university I withdrew from 6 months ago. Turns out, my old landlord has been hoarding their letters to me. As a result, my credit is now in the shitter and I had to pay an extra $120 in interest. FML

Today, I learned I have over $10,000 in debt, despite never owning a credit card. Apparently, my ex-roommate had been replying to the credit card offers I was receiving in the mail. That also explains my missing driver's license a few months back. FML

OP, the debt collection people will negotiate a payment plan to fit your circumstances. Contrary to popular opinion, the government is not heartless, but they did intend the money to be a loan. People can't bitch about the government wasting money, then bitch about them not trying to get their money back. If you want to bitch about something, bitch about why oil companies are getting subsidies at the same time that they're making multiple billions in profits.

Well now you know Obama's plan. He is going after natural disaster aid money. He is so creative. Did you sign anything when FEMA gave you the money? I lost a beach house in Ike and you have to sign umpteen papers to get any money.
