My mom got herself a new car and gave me her 10 year old one when I was able to drive so that I could drive myself and my brothers to school and she wouldn't need to do that anymore. Too close for them to send a bus with the way the budgets are, too far and unsafe to walk (would require crossing a six-lane highway that didn't even have a crosswalk at that point in time- now it does). Pretty much all you need at that age is a functional car as long as you actually do need to drive somewhere. My car has its issues but even now that I'm 19 and still using the same car my parents are more than happy to help me with maintaining it, since it's older and that can cost a bit more. In a year or so maybe they're going to help me buy a new one (but by "new" I mean probably 2 years old or so) and we're passing the one I've been using on to my brothers (they're twins). I can see why this would be disappointing since you had all that anticipation, but hopefully it could still be fixed and your dad was okay?
FYL for having parents who would even consider buying you a car in the first place....i agree with #24
#8 I'm sure they wouldn't claim that since they wouldn't get any money, they'd probably just fix it without involving the insurance company. And this is not a FML I didn't get a car until I was 18, it was a 13 year old Mazda 626 with 125,000 miles on it, and I was happy to have that!
oh bummer man, you have a generous dad that bought you a new car to celebrate your birthday. that really sucks.....?
agree with #10 You should be lucky you even got a car with such a spoiled attitude. BTW I also agree with others who say you're gonna crash it anyways
wow, glad to see you care about a freakin car more then weather your dad was hurt. your a real winner

not really a fml you have parents who would buy you a car for your birthday and i really doubt they wouldn't spend the money to fix it up for you
What your dad probably should have done was just park it in the garage or driveway, rather than drive it into a street lamp. Now it's all banged up...
