I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up doing something like this with my new shiny Bachelor's degree, too.

I'm studying finance and math at a so-called public ivy. I expect to be in your situation when I graduate.

To #70, most of us who are pursuing degrees in higher paying fields are very much interested in them; research becomes crucial in most fields if you want to apply for a graduate program, and that takes up tons of time. The big difference is that to conduct research in many fields (excluding certain theoretical branches of physics and pure mathematics), you need certain facilities, training, and the experience of scientists, while to write all you need is a piece of paper and a pen, and art history could be studied for free from any decent library or the Internet. I agree that people should study what interests them if they choose to go to college, it's just that it does make sense to take on debt if you are studying science/engineering, and there are tons of fellowships/financial assistance to grad students in these fields, while that is a terrible choice if you are pursuing a degree in the field of liberal arts.

Perhaps if you had learned the proper use of commas, you would have a better job. But, as #69 pointed out, you do have to start somewhere.

#54 Oh okay really, I'm SO not motivated at all because I'm in the Army, and that's a big reason why people won't hire me, they think I'll take too much time up. I'm also a volunteer for the police department and have my lifeguarding certification, so don't tell me I'm not motivated. And why is someone going to hire me when I'm going to school full time in the fall? I deal with Information Technology, doubt they're gonna hire a 19 year. So yeah, I'm really not motivated one bit, thank you for telling me.

You should be glad you even graduated with that horrible grammar.

I bet it's hard getting a good job with a 2.1 GPA, a degree in Renaissance Literature at North Dakota State.

Now a days you won't be able to get a job right away obviously. The knowledge that's really out there the colleges aren't even teaching and we as college students aren't even getting it yet. By the time we get our degrees how do we even know the jobs for that field still exists? They teach us all these b/s just to earn a piece of paper for all the money youre in debt for and that you took your time to sit 4-6 yrs in school And besides know that even if you major in any subject most likely you won't get a job in that field anyways. At least you have a degree for one, and that its still an option for you when you do look beyond that stand. You jus gotta work your way up buddy. Reality bites!

I agree with plaidrabbit (#49). So what if the OP majored in something "useless" like literature or philosophy? Life is short, and you may as well get a degree in something you really care about, rather than something you *aren't* passionate about but you think will land you a high-earning job. And if you end up having to work a lousy job for a few months, so what? You'll find a better one eventually. And besides, you can always work on your Great American Novel in-between shifts at the hot dog stand...

you placed a comma after the word "today." so i doubt you even graduated high school.
