Today, when my boyfriend reffered to my hair, I told him I was going to dye it. He responded by saying, "finally, so how much you going for, 40, maybe 50 pounds?". I said dye it, not diet. FML

That's when you respond with, "Actually, I meant dye-it, as in my hair. But you're right, I DO need to lose weight - about 250* lbs of it. In other words: it's over. Get.out." *or whatever boyfriend's weight is

I can't stand that people act like she's committed some horrible sin for not being a size 2. If it's easy for all of you to be skinny, that's really awesome, but for some of us it's a real struggle. I've been fighting to stay a size 8 since I was in my early teens, because I just lost the genetic lottery and got a sucky metabolism. I don't stuff my face (I actually also have IBS, so I can't eat very greasy or rich things), and I'm very sensitive about because I can't stand when I'm feeling down about my weight and people act like I've made some conscious decision to not be a stick. That's not how it works. So shut the **** up. And OP, this guy is an ass, dump him. I'm lucky enough to have a cute boyfriend who doesn't like women with the physique of small boys. The one really awesome thing about not being a size 2: I have boobs. :D

Unless you're 6'10", if you could stand to lose 40-50 pounds, then you probably have serious medical complications with your obesity. I think the problem is eating too much meat. If you eat half a pound to a pound or more of meat every day, you have no one to blame for your obesity but yourself. Has anyone ever seen a vegetarian become morbidly obese? "I became a vegetarian in March of oh-six, and it seems like I've been gaining five pounds a month!" No.

Oh get off your high horse.Just because your a vegetarian doesn't mean you have shame every person that eats meat. Meat is perfectly fine if you eat it in moderation just like everything else in moderation.

He might have just been joking. Still an ass for making the joke though.

If you could easily stand to lose 40-50 pounds, the only thing FML-y about this is that he said "finally." That was rude.

...do people not understand sarcasm these days?

I think a lot of what may or may not be rude about that comment is how fat your boyfriend is. if he's pushing 300, then he has no room to talk, and is just pushing a standard on his girlfriend that he isn't adhering to. if he has a six-pack, then that's different. as for all the people who are talking about genetic causes of obesity, yes it is harder for some people than others to lose weight, just like it is harder for some people than others to gain weight. but to blame the fact that you're 50 pounds overweight on genetics, growth hormones in food, or pharmaceutical companies is a copout. like my Jewish coach who lived through the Holocaust said, you didn't see any genetically fat people in the concentration camps.

The only reason you feel shitty about this is because you are in fact a fatty. At least your boyfriend waited for you to bring it up, misunderstanding that lead your lack of self esteem to bring you down. Lose the weight, it might be hard, but you will feel better about yourself as a person. In the meantime, you deserved it for letting a misunderstanding get the best of you.

This is not an FML. Take your bf's hint and put the fork down!!!!!!!!! and maybe hit the gym too

Your boyfriend is an asshole. Great if he wants to be supportive, but there's a pretty fine line between support and too much enthusiasm. Also, suggesting a specific goal? Especially one that high?? That's not cool! I mean, this is all regardless of the fact that you didn't even say that in the first place, which is an added fml here! This sucks!
