Today, while at work, a customer gave me a $20 tip. I explained to him we aren't allowed to accept tips, but he insisted. When I called the manager to report it, he pocketed my tip. FML

You did the right thing OP, although I hope you were still gracious with the customer and all. Everyone who says YDI, do you not have a conscience? Do you believe in karma? What goes around comes around? Ethics? OP has a job to do, the right way.

What the hell OP? When I worked at a job where we weren't allowed to accept tips, we accepted tips in secret! It's your right.

You did the right thing. Those $20 will come back tenfold in good karma. Your boss is a prick.

say thank you and take the tip like a normal person. maybe your manager make up that rule so he can take your tip. why don't you check company policy

I think he or she checked company policy, which is why they were reporting the tip. Honestly, do people not read FMLs before they jump to conclusions?

Tip to OP: keep your pie hole shut and learn how to palm cash into your pocket discretely. YDI

That's what you get for being a goody two shoes.

I have had to sign contracts at some jobs, saying any gifts, tips or any type of gratuity would be given to the company. Also I was not allowed to have pockets

It scares me the amount of people who are calling the OP an idiot for not accepting money. So if its against company policy, he should just ignore it and risk getting fired for a $20 tip? seriously?
