Today, while at work, a customer gave me a $20 tip. I explained to him we aren't allowed to accept tips, but he insisted. When I called the manager to report it, he pocketed my tip. FML

One rule I learn while working: if the boss doesn't see it, don't say anything. I'm not suppose to accept tips but that hasn't stopped me.

That's why you should've just accepted it instead of reporting it

Exactly! I'm guessing these people really do think it's worth risking your job over 20 bucks, or just have no idea what they are talking about.

How is following company policy "being a prick"? They were reporting the tip, not the customer.

Wow. The OP deserves it for following company policy? No wonder our society is going down the gutter these days.

It's amazing the amount of people saying they deserved it. They could have lost their job if they got busted on it (secret shoppers, the manager walking up as they put it in their pocket, another co-worker looking for something they could tell the manager...) I don't know if it's something they can be terminated for where they work, but it's possible... losing the 20 dollar tip for doing the right thing by company policy is certainly a lot better than losing a job.... gonna lose a lot more than 20 dollars that way. I probably would have kept it myself (I know at my work...they'd never find out), but they didn't deserve it for being honest and not putting their job on the line. Sorry OP, FYL, you were honest and did the right thing by your company policy.
