Blankity Blank

Today, I finally got to conduct my first questioning of a suspect, who had been arrested in connection with a car theft. As I recited the Miranda warning to him, my mind went totally blank, and after a few seconds, he sarcastically continued the speech for me. FML

I find it hilarious that he knows it well enough to recite under pressure yet its your job to remember it and you mindblanked.

It looks like you just caught a regular! You have to be more careful though - cant afford to let him off because you couldn't read him the rights!

Pardon for being slightly off topic but do you (or anyone else) know if a criminal can get off if the officer had a slight speech impediment or coughed and didn't say the rights clearly...?

It happens to the best of us... Go along with it brother in blue!

You cant memorize Miranda rights but you can carry a gun and decide wether or not.to use it. I feel safer already.

What exactly does "carrying a gun" have to do with him forgetting the words to the Miranda rights? Forgetting the most simple thing right when you need that information happens to most people.

Its a simple matter regarding an extremely important part of the arrest process. he was understandably nervous and messed it up. It happens. Just makes me wonder what else will get the nerves going and what he/she might do then.no disrespect to police whom I believe have very difficult jobs.

Actually, a lot of departments make officers read Miranda off of a pre-printed card supplied by the PD... So obviously, it's not easy to remember it word for word.

You must come from a good neighborhood. Where I'm from the kids know it by heart before they hit high school.

What does carrying a weapon have to do with memory loss? If you knew the truth, it would surprise you how many already people around you carry a firearm.

It's always better the sixth time around...

Actually, as far as I can tell, I was the first to post this specific reference on this FML. I commented 15th while the other two people who appear above me with the same reference, commented 21st and 37th. There were other comments referencing 21 Jump Street, but I was the first to use this particular one.

Start watching Law & Order or cops for practice. They use it in pretty much every episode.

I've watched enough criminal minds and NCIS to memorize it.

He should of ended it with a long stare and pause then said "what seems to be the officer problem".

Lol 21 Jump Street anyone? "You have the right to remain a attorney."

Several commenters before you beat you to it. Sorry bro

Where's your Miranda card? You're supposed to read it straight from the card so you don't mess up! If you mess up the Miranda warning, a suspect could potentially go free!!!

oh wow I know the Miranda rights and I'm not even a cop and I haven't ever been inn trouble, time for you to start studying again lol

Time for you to start studying your English again, too.

I've done that to a police officer before! :)

im sure he appreciated that....now you may owe him a doughnut....
