Fake news

Today, I went to a coffee shop to meet an online date. I couldn't spot him, so he eventually came up and introduced himself. It seems his on-line picture must have been taken before I was born. I spluttered "This isn't going to work," and promptly scuttled out. FML

You could have least gotten an actual free coffee out of him, instead of stealing your coworker's.

well OP was being rude...I mean you can sit through maybe an hour of chatting with the guy at least? either way though, if he was like 20 year older then you or something, I could see how you could get creeped out. not cuz he's old, because he wasn't SUPPOSED to he old. :)

I've seen that picture faked by too many people.

why should she waste her time? he already pretty much lied to her so why take it to even a cup of coffee! he was a liar from the very start! screw his feelings being hurt and screw the coffee.

I don't think that it proves that she is stuck up or a bitch. Online dating seems sketchy enough without people misrepresenting themselves by a couple of decades. I think she handled it as well as most startled women would have. *was meant in reply to DocBastard

It shows a complete lack of respect for another human being. This guy could have been a real gentleman, funny, rich, kind, generous...but OP will never know. Or he could be an axe murderer. *shrug*

She definitely could have been more polite and at least spoken with him for awhile. However, I'm guessing, when a person completely different from expected approaches you, there's a good chance you will resort to "fight or flight". Although, it would have made for a much better story if OP chose to put him in an armbar.

I think completely misrepresenting yourself on a dating site is disrespectful to anyone you might meet. If you are a slightly overweight 55 year old, don't pretend to be a athletic 25 year old. The person is going to find out, and it isn't going to be a happy meeting.

Of course that's true, and I would never argue otherwise. Maybe it was just a really good picture and he looked younger than his true age in it.

Let's say, 25 years younger? Yes, I guess it was a good looking picture. Why the heck are you defending him? He lied. He pretended to be 25 years younger (or 15, if OP is a teen, which may be a possibility), he posted a dated picture, and you really expect OP to smile and discover his great personality? But hey, maybe you love lyers, just keep in mind that many people don't.

Also remember that we are only hearing one side of the story, so passing judgment based on one side is biased and unjust.

Yeah, but passing judgment is what makes the comment section fun! We can make any assumption we want with a modicum of information, and all of a sudden OP can be a supermodel or a gremlin! Ain't the interweb grand?

He must have been old AND ugly. If he were a Silver Fox, your story wouldn't be on FML, it would be a video on HotSugarDaddies.com (wouldn't that be caramel? But, I digress.)

I see what you did there with the caramel...

How is this F YOUR life? You shouldn't have been willing to meet someone that only had one picture anyway. But if not dating older men is your preference, then thats your choice. You still shouldn't have been so mean about it...

#15 Are you telling me that you wouldn't be freaked out if the guy you were meeting for a date suddenly turned out to be MUCH older than you were expecting? I'm sure if you found yourself in that situation, you'd find it hard to keep calm.

in reply to eerypne saying shes stuck up and givehim a chance: I personally couldn't stand marrying someone who would make me grimace every time I looked at him... :/

that sucks but I mean... to some extent you must expect that kinda thing from online dating. you know the majority of people put up pics from when they were way younger, or pics that aren't even of them. still, it sounds like this was a bit worse than usual. oh well. at least you got outta there. better luck next time!

Maybe you should fix your face..

Ok let me get this straight... You set up a date online yet never asked him how old he was? You're an idiot and FULLY deserve it

I like older men. Although my boyfriend is a few years older, I wouldn't mind knocking boots with DocBastard, just saying ... :)

Don't let Mrs. Bastard hear you say that! She's a New Yorker and will likely tear your lips off. (pssst- call me)

This is creepy and the man is obviously stupid. I mean, did he think you wouldn't realize how incredibly old and different he looked from his online pictures? Creepy man is creepy.

And also when it comes to online dating you must realize that not everyone is completely honest. You should've made it a point to get to know him a little better through texts/ phone calls before meeting up.
