Today, I got my first tattoo. When I showed my boyfriend, he asked where I got the design. I told him I saw it in a sketch book of his. He designed it for his last girlfriend, who got it in the same place. FML

I'm sorry, but this is freaking hilarious!!! You should've thought to ask him about it first. I mean, it is his work. I have no artistic talent, but if I did, and someone took one of my drawings and used it as a tattoo without my permission, I'd be a little upset

If you got the tattoo because you truly like the design, it doesn't matter who else has it. If you got it to try to flatter your boyfriend, you're stupid for not consulting him first about something that permanent. Also, don't make a permanent decision (like getting a tattoo) based on something that could be only temporary (like having a certain boyfriend). And in case anyone feels the need to point out that tattoos can be removed: that is a long, slow and painful process. It's not a "plan B" it's more of a "plan D."

YDI for several reasons: 1. You've been snooping around in his stuff without his knowledge or permission. (otherwise he would've known where you got the design from) 2. You've been using his art without permission. 3. In a relationship, people talk about things like these. At least they should. In summary, YDI for being ignorant.

FYL - you were a bit silly, yes, but FYL because you're boyfriend could have been more tactful and not told you the real reason behind the doodle. Lying is generally bad but there are occasions when it's better than telling the truth. I'm sure it's a nice design, perhaps fate had a hand in this and perhaps the tattoo was really meant for you, he just put it to paper a little early.

I'm curious as to what you're talking about, exactly. Where did he lie? His question of where she got the design obviously states that she went through his art without his knowledge. It'd be more of FHL than hers.
