YDI Almost all girls I know are the same. When someone is just trying to be nice you pull out the mace, but at night you don't mind walking away with a creepy guy that says his friend has change for you 50$ bill. just because you were the one that approached him instead it's all of a sudden smarter... Seriously, get real.
no one ever said the op was a girl...just putting that out there.
People now a days always think that someones after them & mase always isn't the answer. It might be a little freaky if someone was yelling at you but I don't think if anyone were to attack you they'd be yelling. How else would you have told someone they dropped some change?
I guess I understand your reaction... parking garages are pretty creepy and can give a bad feeling, especially in a city like environment. Students from my college get mugged often enough to have people looking over their shoulder at night. Though, you were in the campus parking garage, so the person was probably a professor or student, right?
if hes trying to mug you he wouldnt shout 'hey stop'. that would just be stupid. YDI
Wow, whoever is saying YDI is pretty stupid. I live in a big city, and people get approached all the time, usually with less than honorable intentions. I'd rather be too paranoid than not paranoid enough, any day. No, not everyone is out to get you, or get in your pants, but a great deal of people these days are unsavory characters, and I'm not going to just trust that everyone is a nice person and later get kicked in the ass for it. If he wanted to get the OP's attention, he should have started out by saying "Excuse me miss, you've dropped your money" and I think in that situation, any woman would be fine turning around to observe the situation and find out that he's telling the truth. #21 -- By the way, there's no reason to go screaming "What the hell do you want?" because that's rude and uncalled for. If there was some weird man yelling at me from behind, regardless of the fact that rapists and whatever usually don't say "Hey, stop!" I would keep walking too. Fast. In fact, that's happened to me before. And in my case, it was a group of three guys trying to get me to stop for a reason that's a lot less innocent than this one. A lot of times, men will do that in hopes that the woman lets down her guard for just a second, and he receives an opportunity to catch her off guard, or he'll try to "sweet talk" her into coming near him. So I think continually walking is perfectly reasonable and the same reaction that all women should have, simply because the circumstances of this FML (dropping the money) isn't going to be the case every single time. It certainly doesn't help that she was in a parking garage. Those things are sketchy any time of day in pretty much any city. Oh, and #24, he could have just said "You dropped your money." Would have saved a lot of time, effort, and suspicion on both of their parts.
lol @ 2 =] but yea, i think it was pretty smart of you to play it safe, but you shouldn't have pointed the mace at him off hand.... you shoulda waited to hear what he had to say, but had the mace ready. the world is a crazy place =|
If he said "you dropped something" everything would have been solved and painless.

Today, I noticed someone leaving the parking garage. She dropped a 5-dollar-bill. I picked it up and tried to return it to her, but when I caught up to her, she turned around and threatened to spray me with mace. FML.
lol at #2 But yeah I once saw an old man drop his glasses without realising, so being a good citizen, I picked them up and ran after him. I got punched by a passer-by who thought I was trying to jump the old man. FML
