That happened to me, too! My mother wouldn't let me get medication for my Sensory Integration Disorder, while her boyfriend downed pills for his ADD. sucks, doesn't it?
My dad feels the same way about my insomnia and arthritis.
Do something so noisy every hour that he wakes and gives you one of his Ambien just to knock you out. Or you could take one of his while he is asleep. Or you could try some over the counter med that has drowsiness as a side effect.
Weed!
have you ever tried melatonin? it's over-the-counter and it's a natural chemical that already exists in your brain that helps relax you and put you to sleep. i don't think it's addictive, or /as/ addictive as most sleeping pills, so you could try it :)
Smoke some weed. That'll put you to sleep.

It does suck, but your dad is right. I'm an insomniac and my doctor prescribed me Lunesta... it's great... I can sleep and whatnot; however, if I don't take it, I CAN'T sleep. Sleeping pill dependance is a real problem. Try exercising to wear yourself our or some other non-sleeping pill options or talk to your doctor... not really a true FML but I know the feeling very well. :/
Ok, those things may help normal people with sleepless nights, but, as an insomniac, I can tell you that those things don't help. We have a real problem that can't simply be reversed by changing our nightly routine.
