I didn't see you there

Today, I tossed half a sausage to a dog sitting beside a park bench. It wasn't until he lunged for it and dragged the man beside him off of the bench that I realized it was a seeing eye dog. FML

I bet the owner didn't see that coming.

A proper seeing eye dog should actually never accept treats from strangers.

While you may not have known that the dog was a special needs dog and that the owner was blind, you should never feed another person's dog without permission unless you really know the person and their pet. Aside from the fact that it is kind of rude, there are many other reasons for this.

Exactly. My sister's dog is allergic to preservatives, so can only be given fresh meat, fruit and veggies. If she gets into something she isn't supposed to, she breaks out in a rash, then starts losing her hair.

That is surprising as here in the UK, they train them so that their innate behaviours (such as eating some meat that had been thrown to them), become inert unless they are from the owner/trainer.

That's how it's suppose to be with all service dogs really. This one seems poorly trained. Or maybe still a puppy in training.

Damn, try to explain that without comung off as a complete asshole. "Sorry man, I didn't see that your dog was a seeing eye dog..."

you NEVER give an animal that doesn't belong to you food without asking the owner first

First of all, you don't throw food to someone else's dog unless you ask first. Some dogs have allergies or medical conditions, some are still in training, and some owners don't like strangers feeding their dogs. Second, a seeing-eye dog wears a special harness with a handle on it. Most also wear a "cape" that says "guide dog" or "service dog" on it. While the dog may not have been properly trained to ignore food, it's still your fault for throwing sausage at it. :|

Why are people so ******* dumb when it comes to other people's dogs? You don't give other people's animals food without permission. They could have allergies. Also service dogs wear a vest. So you didn't notice?????? I hope that blind guy beat the **** out of you.

You should have offered your sausage to the blind guy first, and if he didn't want it, give it to the dog. Crazy shit happens in parks.

That dog is not very well trained if it went after a sausage while working. And whether or not it was a working dog you should have never given the dog anything. Its not yours, you don't know anything about it and what the owner allows it or not. YDI and much more for your assumptions.

So now we know it was you who let the dogs out.... Kidding aside, like everyone else says asking first or making better observations would save you the trouble.
