Lawman

Today, my boss in my police department told me to start enforcing the "No bikes on sidewalks" law, which we usually ignore. I pulled up behind the first person I saw riding a bike on a sidewalk and flashed my lights. It turned out to be a boy with Down's syndrome, who was so upset he cried and peed. FML

wow, that really sucks. its not your fault at all, how were you to know that the kid had down syndrome? You were just doing your job. Don't worry about it man

You shouldn't feel bad about enforcing the law, and you should definitely tell your boss what happened.

Not everywhere. Frankly , it sounds like it's time for the citizens to demand that the law be repealed, and replaced with one that says "Bicycles ridden on the sidewalk must be ridden at a reasonably slow pace and must give right-of-way to pedestrians"

It's definitely not your fault. You were only doing your job, there was no way you could of known the boy had Down Syndrome.

Aww thats so sad :'( I'd rather people ride on the sidewalk. Who wants to get hit by a car?

they wouldn't get hit by cars if they didn't ride out in front of them, run red lights, fail to give way or ride at 5kph in a 70kph zone in front of a line up if traffic!

This is awful. Not your fault at all, but it's impossible to not feel terrible in these situations. Just remind yourself that there's no way you could have known and keep up the good work.

well that's a dumb law. YDI for not being more lenient with the boy.

so now people have to be lenient with disabled law breakers? what next? he had a disability so it's not his fault he robbed the bank and shot some teller in the face?? breaking a law is breaking a law, regardless of how small or unimportant it may seem to you, they are made to protect people. EVERYONE including us police officers have to abide by them.

it's the law because people are reckless on bikes and can run down walkers. you ride your bike on the street, but to the side as to not get hit by cars. it's not a dumb law, 15.

not all bikers are reckless, it's those kinds of people who give us a bad name

That's a stupid law. I agree with #2. But it wasn't you're fault, you couldn't of known.

#17, the law is perfectly fine. There are bike lanes made just for that reason.

haha thats funny. thats a stupid law, i get so pissed at the bikers on the streets I just wanna hit them. they belong on the sidewalk for their saftey and the drivers sanity.
