Lawman

Today, my boss in my police department told me to start enforcing the "No bikes on sidewalks" law, which we usually ignore. I pulled up behind the first person I saw riding a bike on a sidewalk and flashed my lights. It turned out to be a boy with Down's syndrome, who was so upset he cried and peed. FML

wow, that really sucks. its not your fault at all, how were you to know that the kid had down syndrome? You were just doing your job. Don't worry about it man

You shouldn't feel bad about enforcing the law, and you should definitely tell your boss what happened.

that sucks, poor kid, but you can't blame yourself. plus if the boy has down syndrome he shouldn't be riding his bike unsupervised without his parents

thats stupid its not your fault he has down sindrum well listen to The Best Day Taylor Swift

that's the dumbest rule i've ever heard, and you can tell your boss that. where else are we supposed to ride our bikes? it's either the sidewalk or the street itself, you pick. *eyeroll* sucks that you had to go through that, though, it's not your fault that you have to enforce incredibly stupid rules, you're just doing your job.

Awww!! Well not to be repetitive, but you were just doing you job. That is kind of a stupid rule though xP This is like the time this kid was biking near me while I was walking to a class and crashed full-speed into a brick pillar. He started screaming, and his mom ran over, so he looked at me and started crying and shouted "this is why I can't bike around other people!!!". How was I supposed to react? x(

man that sucks :( not your fault. What a retarded rule though!

#77, why are you blaming him? I suppose enforcing littering laws is a waste of tax money too? It's against the law, and it should be addressed. It's not like there are cops getting paid to look for bicyclists. It doesn't take much to pull over and tell someone to get off the sidewalk, plus he was told to do it. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. With the exception of kids, who don't go very fast and won't cause and problems for pedestrians, bicycles are vehicles, and they belong on the road.

@94, i think he was saying that following the law in a place wihtout bike lanes would get a lot of riders hurt, which is the truth. @92, i also dislike the bike riders who ride on the sidealk in crowded city streets, it doesn't let them go faster so they could at least push their bike or get on the road where the cars are so slow that they won't hit you. However, outside of the CBD drivers are insensitive and very dangerous to bike riders WITH OR WITHOUT bike lanes. I've seen bike riders hit in the bike lane as drivers use them as an extra lane or purposely aim at them. I think it should be the cops choice as to whether riding on the sidewalk at that current location/time was inappropriate or unlawful.

Why not just ticket the asshat bikers that ride to fast on the sidewalk? I ride on the sidewalk as there are no bike lines and I always slow down for walkers.
