Everyone's saying that bathroom attendants don't hold your things, but assuming this was an organized scam and not just an attack of opportunity as it were, the "attendant" probably relied on the fact that most people have never been in a bathroom with an attendant before and that people tend to get flustered and look for cues to follow when they're in a new situation. She would just wait until she someone wanders in alone who looks overwhelmed by how "posh" the place is, then introduce herself as the attendant and offer to hold the mark's coat and bag. The mark is then simultaneously impressed with the service and relieved that she doesn't have to figure out what the attendant is about, so she goes with the flow. Add in the fact that people who go into a bathroom are usually there on pressing business and that someone who's using the bathroom in the lobby of a hotel she's checking into *really* needs to go, and you've got all the makings of a great scam. People who make decisions under pressure don't tend to question the premises put in front of them.
Usually I forgot to think "FYL" with these kind of things, but then I realise that stealing is such a low thing that you cannot deserve it. People need to earn their own things and if they are not satisfied with what they have, WORK FOR IT!
That must have been "crappy"
Bet ya won't do that again lol, that sucks tho
Doesn't matter the hotel or restaurant...always keep things with you...most stalls have hooks for those reasons...
why would you ever think that handing some stranger important items is a good idea? do you do this often?
Remind me to never go to italy then
you wouldnt give your purse and coat to a stranger in the first place
what on earth does a 'bathroom attendant' do? Open and close the door? Flush the toilet? Wash your hands?

Even if they did have one...why give your things to anyone? YDI just take it with you and hang them on the hook on the bathroom door.
I never trust that, maybe I don't trust people in general but I'm not okay with the idea of handing my expensive things to a stranger and assuming they'll give them back.
