I wouldn't give a shit if they work there or not, you should never trust your things with some random person if you expect to see it again...
YDI...always keep your valuables with you unless you can completely trust the person.
Sorry OP. You're an idiot.
Don't trust anyone unless it's someone you know really well. Only problem is people we know really well and trust have a tendency to become very untrustworthy in a split-second.
OP probably made an assumption that the person in the bathroom who wasn't dressed in high fashion was an attendant. I know if I was at a fancy hotel and someone handed me their stuff thinking that I was an attendant, that stuff would go missing. I might walk it over to the receptionist but I certainly wouldn't be there when the person came looking for their stuff.
"Welcome to the internet. I'll be your guide. Now op, before we proceed, we will need your DOB, social insurance number, a credit card, your current address and a 250$ cash deposit. Now that that's all settled, could you follow me down this dark ominous hallway?"

Even if they did have one...why give your things to anyone? YDI just take it with you and hang them on the hook on the bathroom door.
I never trust that, maybe I don't trust people in general but I'm not okay with the idea of handing my expensive things to a stranger and assuming they'll give them back.
