Next step

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, after my son graduated from nursing school which I, as a single parent, paid for with blood, sweat, and tears, during his grad party he was asked what his next step was. His response was, "Eh, I kinda realized I hate nursing." FML

At least he finished. I'm a nurse and knew a few who quit half way through. He's always got it if he changed his mind later.

He should have known at least half way through is courses that he didn't want to be a nurse.

So he joins a career where most hate their jobs.

i worked nurse aid for years. loved it. it was in a pysch hospital there was something different and exciting happenig all the time without to many medical problems. poi.t is we still needed nurses over us. maybe he would like that type of nursing.

Let him work at a low end store for little pay before he realizes that he is grateful for the degree and is ready to use it.

Agreed. Working in retail is what made me want to go back to college.

As a nurse I say his damn loss. He is an ungrateful little twerp, but I'm also glad he isn't taking lives into his hands with that kind of attitude.

That's messed up and extremely ungrateful!!! Does he not realize how hard you worked to put him through school!!?

Don't worry OP there are other avenues he can take. My niece decided it wasn't for her and went into veterinary school. She could also have taken a few different other avenues Like lab tech. Health and safety. Food inspector. More schooling but not too much more. Good Luck

ppl dunno what they want to do in life YDI for not thinking about that.

I put myself through nursing school--but realized I hated it two weeks in. However I had already quit my job, so I decided to stick with it. 1 year into a nursing job, I've almost paid off my $26,000 debt, and plan to think about another career when I'm out of debt. Nursing is like slavery/ torture (I'm a really good nurse by the way, super nice and makes all my patients happy--unless they're jerks). You can be a good nurse but hate nursing and hate your life.
