Prove me wrong

Today, my dad took a call while driving. He always yells and curses at people who talk on their cell while driving. I asked him to get off the phone because it's dangerous, and told him he's being a hypocrite. He shook his head at me and continued talking. Seconds later, we got into an accident. FML

I thought talking on the phone and driving was illegal in NJ?

out here in bc, it's illegal to talk on phone while driving... unless, if you use your bluetooth, of course!

that's what you get for further distracting the driver

same thing happened to me. except it was with my brother. I told him of literally a minute before the accident

You deserve it. If you hadnt been distracting him and telling him to get off the phone while he was on the phone and driving the wreck most likely wouldn't have happened. Stupid ******* people

The only "stupid *******" person here is you. If he had a blue tooth, answering his cell phone would have been fine, but with the way the FML is worded, it appears that he didn't. Plus, if you can't handle driving with other people in the car (whether they're talking or not), regardless if you're on the phone, then you shouldn't be driving at all. You have to be able to drive with distractions, which would also include knowing which distractions to ignore, such as a cell phone that isn't connected to a blue tooth or the car speakers.

I hate people like OP's dad - and not just when it involves driving; in every part of life. Hypocrites suck and can be complete jerks.

This story is so easily relatable that most ppl jumped to the conclusion that the dad deserved it (we all had parents and they're all the same), and considering the daughter's well put description he definitely looks bad. But try this perspective too; a working father tired from work has a really urgent call about more work that he needs to finish to bring food on the table; or whatever else clichéd reason for a father to be put under stress/pressure. Then imagine adding to that a daughter's incessant nagging trying to be a smart ass 'cause she pointed out an exception to his moral code which, for whatever reason unbeknownst to the daughter, was more important than following his own principles. Now from this pov, the daughter is actually the one that took the 50% concentration left that he was trying to muster to keep on driving while the other 50% was being reserved for the important work related call. I don't think he deserves it. Neither do I think OP did. But I'm not the type to judge a book by its cover, and with the info given we can't judge the father that hastily.

Literally had the exact same thing happen to me. Told my mom to get off the phone while driving, she refused, and then we got t-boned. You leave a cup in your room and you're grounded for a month but they carelessly put your life in danger and don't even bat an eye. Parents need to lose the power trip and remember how to nurture.
