Scammed

Today, after a little detective work, I found out the money that recently went missing from my college fund was transferred by my mother, to her own account. She claims it's to pay a parking ticket. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I didn't know they fined people over $3,500 for a parking violation. FML

She parked on another car maybe?

What ever you do.....do not say Happy Mother's Day to this bitch!

Not everyone can open their own account, so they normally co-sign with a parent

How hard is it to open a bank account? A single piece of ID (foreign or domestic) and a couple dollars to put in and you're set.

Ask her why it would cost that much to pay a parking ticket. sucks that you lost education money though.

I'm not in any way educated in this, but isn't that illegal in some way? It doesn't seem like she could get away with it. (sorry if I'm talking out of my bum)

I would think this would only be legal if OP's mother put $3500 into the account.

If her mum is on the account, she can do whatever she likes with no reason given. If she were not on the account, she wouldn't have been able to make the transfer. This does not apply to *some* education savings accounts. In that case, the mother might have to pay a fine for withdrawing the money for purposes other than education but it's still not illegal. Banks tend to avoid doing illegal things when possible.

Thank you, 106. I understand this more now. :)

Call her up and say, "Hello mother, i realize today is Mother's Day... look outside your house and within 5mins there will be a police car awaiting you, I love you, Happy Mother's day!"

Well that's just plain rude.

I think she did. That's how she managed to find out about the parking ticket.

Cut her some slack it mother's day. Haha kidding, I'd be pissed.

who saved that money you or her sounds like it to me that she can do anything with her money she pleases. you should be thankful she has helped you this much. if you saved it then yes that would suck.

So say I donate some money to a charity, and later, through a series of hijinks, find myself in jail. It would be perfectly alright for me to somehow take that money back so I can pay my bail, right? I'm saying hypothetically, I know you can't actually do that.
