Today, while on my driving test, the guy told me to pull over and do a U-turn. A few minutes later, he asked me to do another one. After the test, he said I'd failed because the second U-turn was illegal, and I should have refused to comply. I didn't know they're even allowed do that. FML

Why would he let you take an illegal turn, or even suggest it in the first place? Sounds to me like someone has to reread their job description

On my first driving test I failed because I didn't slow down in a school zone even though no children were present. When my brother took his a few years later he got points taken off for slowing down in a school zone when no kids are present. It's a really stupid system. Good news is you can take it again. Sorry that that guy sucked. :(

I'm not sure where you are, but in Canada you always slow down in play ground zones during set times kids or not, and school zones during school hours on school days only. Some schools are year around so you need to watch the sign, and for the schools flag. Neither of those change if children are / are not present.

Yep, same here in Germany. Unless of course the sign explicitly states something different (like only between 08:00 - 14:00)

So, I've done a bit of Google searching. It's been less than five minutes and I've already found four results that say the examiner is not there to trick you or make you do anything illegal. One explicitly says that an examiner /cannot/ do this. Only one has said that they may attempt to trick you. Take from that what you will.

Do you have any knowledge on where the op lives? Because I know numerous European countries where they are allowed to do this.

What did you search? Because you can influence the results you'll find based on how you asked the question. Personally I think they should be trying to trick you. It's about applying the knowledge you gained to real life scenarios, and if they ask you to do something illegal, you should speak up and voice your concerns about the legality of said action. Don't be a sheep and blindly do whatever someone says without using some critical thinking.

156, normally I would agree with you, but I was told that I would fail the test automatically if I disobey the instructor at any point. I can't know specifically about OP, but I believe that is the case in many places. It would be unfair to expect you to disobey if you were under the impression that it would cause you to fail.

My father told me that some places almost always automatically fail people as some sort of formality or something... That's what crossed my mind when I read this.

They are not aloud to do that ._. good luck on your next test

Actually they are. The instructor is supposed to TEST them.

I failed my first test because I "Failed to accelerate fast enough through a green light." It was total bullsh*t..

They can do that where I'm from. It happened to me, only they asked me to make an illegal left turn. Fortunately, I saw the sign and didn't turn.

And that's why I hate the DMV. I thought it was only illegal though if there was a no U-turn sign.

He's actually not even allowed to do that wtf

DUH it's a trick to see if you've read the book

While they shouldn't do that they do it to see how well you know the stuff you were supposed to learn about driving. They need to keep you on your toes.
