Supportive

By iamatthewroberts - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, my grandmother told me that not only does she not accept me as a homosexual man, but that she feels my relationship with a little person is "spitting in God's face." FML

Just start getting some pamphlets from funeral homes and cemeteries and leve them around the house so she'll find one. Then if she asks you about it, laugh and shrug. Then ask her about the will.

Is any of it true? Your sexual preferences, not your grandmother. Regardless, the elderly tend to be bigots. Don't let it bother you.

Not all Christians are like that. I'm a Baptist and two of my friends are gay.

shes right. homosexuality does go against christianity. however i think she should respect your personal wishes and its whatever makes you happy that counts.

Bitch her out about eating shrimp, wearing polyester, eating hamburger, having a vegetable garden, shaving, working on Saturdays and all the other bullshit that's considered just as bad as homosexuality in the bible. I have to deal with this sanctimonious bigotry all the time, always feels good to put idiots in their place and show how ridiculous their precious book really is.

Hey, you do have a point, but at this point in time, all that shit only applies to people who are Jewish. Old Testament laws about food, clothing, the Sabbath, and whether or not I can shave, do not apply to me. That was the old covenant, and in the New Testament, all of that was made void. PS, you best watch that sanctimonious bullshit attitude you've got honey. Some people are a lot more touchy about their precious book.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Matthew 5:17), said by Jesus. Sorry, but the New Testament did not make the Old Testament void, that is a misconception. Jesus came to uphold all it's values and as a Christian you're expected to abide by both. The New Testament added to the Old one, it did NOT replace it, it says that right in the New Testament itself. So stop the scapegoating for the atrocious rules the Bible contains. It is you that best drop your ignorant bullshit attitude honey, because you clearly don't know as much as you think.

she's right. you will burn in the fires of hell for your heresy! The Lord forbids such practice!

the lord also forbids molestation and rape, or is that molestache just an accessory?

to #21- congrats? to #24- are you God? most christians i come across are very judgemental and i work in intertfaith relations...

I find it unfortunate that you come across so many Christian's like that. Most I meet are very accepting, not including the older crowd..

Not all people are like that, no, but there are a hell of a lot of people that are. I'm Anglican (Christian) and I don't see what the big deal is with gay marriage. For those who believe in God, he wouldn't hate any person, or want them to be unhappy (assuming being in a homosexual relationship would make one or more of his children happy). In my opinion, this is a non-issue, but obviously many others think there is something wrong about homosexuality.

You make the same point I've been trying to make with my Christian parents for a long time. Not only does the bible say that God loves everyone despite their sins (as you stated), it also says that only God himself is fit to judge. So all these Christians going around making judgements are not only lying by saying that God dislikes those people, they are also breaking a very big part of God's word by judging someone when God says that no man is fit to judge another man. It says in the bible, more than once (and I'll put it in simple terms since I can't exactly quote the Bible): "Hate the sin, not the sinner." And, from God himself, "Who are you to judge your fellow man?"

And I'm by no means fat, but my maternal grandmother always, always tells me I could lose some weight, and she gives my 'healthy' sized sisters chocolate when I don't get any from her. She's blunt and blind, but I can't do anything about it. EDIT*** She's not really blind, just blind to my body, I guess.

Yes, because this woman "clearly" represents the views of God, and therefore, God can't be trusted. Honestly, people, because there are a few (ok, a lot) or bad Christians out there doesn't mean that religion in and of itself is inherently evil. Granted, this grandmother has admittedly taken the Bible the wrong way. But am I the only one who can see the problems and bigotry in today's organized Christian sects as just what they are, problems that man himself creates, instead of a reflection on the concept of religion itself? Also, it's true, everyone has suddenly become quite closed-minded now that we're talking about God instead of sexuality.

What have religions given to humanity apart from wars, bigotry, alienation of others and other beliefs, more wars and grand mothers who don't support their grand kids when it comes to who they want to put their penis in?

Not really, people just say the homophobes are "misinterpreting" so they can save face for being religious. The bible has teachings that are downright disgusting and stupid, there is no beating around the bush about it. Bunnies are an abomination, gay is an abomination, tattoos are abominations, shaving is an abomination but it is perfectly acceptable to sell your daughter as a *****. Women were only created as a last resort, man was originally bred with animals. But that's fine, **********, who cares? Perfectly acceptable. Religion has a bad rap because it's lunacy on a massive scale, not because a few bad apples read it wrong. It's a reason not to think for yourself and decide what's right or wrong. So convenient! Just read this book and it will make up your mind for you. It tells you to kill so be it! You're doing God's work! I'll go hang me some heathens. It tells you to hate, okay! There's nothing wrong with that. I get that religion can provide comfort, I used to sometimes wish I could believe in a higher power so things could be easier, to know there's a purpose and live my life in an organized fashion that made things simple. But I couldn't be so arrogant to think that if there even were a God he would ever pay attention to all us petty people and our problems. I couldn't be so illogical to think there was a God when I was told there was no Santa or unicorns, which let's face it are just as plausible. But the people it helps, are far outnumbered by the people it hurts. The people who have been beaten, killed, berated and disowned by their families. The people who have been alienated and told they're going to hell, even if they were good people, just because they couldn't throw away logic like some people.
