Today, after I spent two hours trying to teach my girlfriend to play sudoku, she broke up with me, tearfully claiming that I'd made up a fake, imaginary game to make her feel stupid. FML

You should teach her how to play Hide the Sausage.

"I can't believe you! You made up Sudoku!" "It's...it's a real game..." "LIES!!! ALL OF THEM!!"

This isn't really bad for you, she's an idiot and you're better off.

Agreed. Having conversations with idiots is too much work.

OP GF: "numbers, in boxes, what kind of sick games is this!?!? Last week you made up Chess- no, I am sick of this OP! We are done!"

I wish you could thumbs up more than once :)

Just as I wish that I could thumb you DOWN more than once, 36...

If that's what it took for her to breakup with you, you should do the math and figure out that you guys were not a match.

Congratulations on your split!!!!!

Are you saying you forced her to sit and listen to you explain her sudoku till she began crying?...

Yeah and just because she can't grasp the concept does not mean she's dumb some people learn differently. So I hope it wasn't two hours of you patronizing her.

It's a little strange not to know about sudoku and not get it in 2 hours, but I don't see the reason for trying so badly to teach someone something so... unimportant. She may not have been interested to learn and he may have made some remarks. I won't judge the girl right now, but it sounds like OP was too obsessed with this. Why not find something else to do that didn't make her feel stupid and him being agitated... and dumped.

I didn't think of that, but that's a good point. She can't help it if she's .... intellectually challenged... But her boyfriend didn't have to spend two hours trying to teach her something she clearly just can't grasp.

I learnt to play sudoku when I was 21

I'll let the thumbs speak for this comment.

Were you referring to me 51. yes, english is not my native language, but I didn't get why u said that

I'm... not sure why the poster not being a native English speaker is relevant either. Aside from the missing punctuation, that was a 100% grammatically legitimate (if perhaps slightly spontaneous) post. My only guess is people not knowing "learnt" is a legitimate past participle of "learn" (check the World English Dictionary if you're skeptical).

I have slowly learned that it's not a good idea to try to teach a "significant other" anything unless you are really patient or they really want to learn.

Like my husband trying to teach me good strategy in Risk. I'm not a strategic thinker like him so it doesn't click.
