Well, whatever the cause, you should have corrected him... it's just kinda rude of him to assume from the name. And it has happened before, some girls look pretty androgynous (and some men too obviously) -- without cues like voice and clothes it can be difficult to tell based on looks alone. So you were unlucky this time... if you want to prevent being mistaken then you might want to consciously 'code' your dressing as 'feminine', wear skirts and/or blouses with frills or something; dresses, etc. If not then just correct these people if they get it wrong; it's not really a bad thing if you don't feel bad about it, and says nothing about how attractive you are: many androgynous people are very good looking.
